Mike Boyles

Retired Shell Oil and Affiliate Faculty, Colorado School of Mines.

Mike’s early career included sedimentology work at Skidaway Oceanographic Institute and field work in Antarctica for the USGS. After completing a Ph.D., he spent over 35 years in the petroleum industry working in research and as a technical specialist in clastic sedimentology, stratigraphy and the stratigraphic interpretation of 3D seismic. His experience includes production and exploration projects in the Rocky Mountains, Gulf of Mexico, China, Middle East, North Sea and Australia while working for variety of companies, including, Cities Service, Research Planning Institute, Shell Oil, Union Pacific Resources, ConocoPhillips, the University of Wyoming and then Shell again. Mike is now semi-retired but continues to teach field seminars on fluvial and coastal depositional systems and act as a technical specialist and mentor.
