Rob Knipe

Emeritus Professor of Structural Geology, University of Leeds.

Rob has over 40 years’ research and teaching experience. For more than 20 years he was also the Founder, CEO and Chairman of Rock Deformation Research Ltd, a global leader in structural geological consultancy.

Rob is currently involved in the Energy Transition and is coordinating a series of meetings on ‘The Role of Geosciences in the Energy Transition’ for the Geological Society of London. He is also involved in local and national groups and charities promoting changes towards a carbon neutral society.

Rob has published more than 150 research papers, supervised more than 30 Ph.D.s and won awards and medals for his research, including the prestigious William Smith Medal from The Geological Society of London.

Rob has worked and published on the geology of NW Scotland for more than 40 years, during which time he has developed a passion for the geology, landscapes, culture and history of the Scottish Highlands, to almost rival his passion for his native Wales!
