World-class training for the modern energy industry

Sebastian Geiger

Sebastian Geiger

Geoscientist, TRACS International Consultancy Ltd; Professor and Energi Simulation Chair, Heriot-Watt University; Director of the Institute of Petroleum Engineering, Heriot-Watt University; Co-Director, International Centre for Carbonate Reservoirs

Sebastian is active in academia and in the oil and gas industry and has 15 years of applied experience. His research interests center on the characterization, modeling and simulation of multi-scale and multi-phase flow and transport processes in fractured (carbonate) reservoirs, with applications to hydrocarbon production, CO2 storage and geothermal energy to ensure sustainable production of energy and safe operation of subsurface energy systems. He and his team develop new model concepts and numerical methods, apply high-performance computations and innovative workflows, and use experiments to image flow processes in porous media. The research spans fundamental discovery science that has been published in high-impact journals such as Proceedings of the National Society of America to direct industry applications where the work has influenced multi-million-dollar decisions. Sebastian’s honors include the Alfred Wegener Award from the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (2017); his publications include one edited book and over 140 technical papers.
